If you’re scouting for a venue that perfectly balances “Melbourne cool” with a seamless guest experience, The Post Office Hotel (POH) in Coburg should be at the top of your list.

As local DJs who have spent countless nights behind the decks in the Dining Hall, we’ve seen first hand why this Sydney Road icon remains one of the most sought-after spots in the inner north. It’s unpretentious, it’s stylish, and most importantly, it’s built for a proper party.

Here is our guide to everything you need to know about getting married at the POH.

The vibe: Warehouse soul in the heart of Coburg

Forget the stiff, traditional ballroom. The Dining Hall at the Post Office Hotel is a dedicated warehouse-style event space hidden behind the main pub. With its soaring cathedral ceilings, exposed timber beams, and vintage pendant lighting, it provides a moody, industrial backdrop that needs very little styling to look incredible.

Whether you’re planning a sit-down feast for 130 or a high-energy cocktail bash for 250, the space is incredibly adaptable.

The setup: Ceremony to celebration

One of the biggest wins at POH is the all-in-one flow.

  • The garden deck: Get hitched on the private outdoor deck surrounded by greenery. It’s secluded from the hustle of Sydney Road but keeps that urban energy.

  • The transition: Guests can move straight from the "I dos" to the bar for a local craft brew (they even have an onsite brewery if you want a custom beer!) while we shift the vibe from ceremony tunes to upbeat cocktail music.

  • The dining hall: After cocktail hour, the party moves inside where the brick walls and timber accents create a warm, intimate atmosphere for dinner and dancing.

The sound: A pro tip for your DJ

If you’re booking entertainment for the POH, there is one important technical update to keep in mind. The venue requires all DJs to plug into their high-quality in-house sound system.

While some venues have restrictive "limiter" systems that can kill the vibe, the POH system is robust and covers the entire room - including the outdoor deck - perfectly. For our couples, this is actually a win; it means a cleaner setup with fewer bulky speakers cluttering your floor plan, while still allowing us to provide that signature high-end sound through their professional-grade ceiling and wall-mounted speakers.

Note: We still bring our own pro-grade decks and controllers to ensure the mixing is seamless and the energy stays high.

Why we love the POH

Central location

Guests love that they don't have to trek to the Yarra Valley. It’s 9km from the CBD and easily accessible via the #19 tram or the Upfield train line.

The food

This isn't your standard "wedding chicken." It’s elevated pub food that people actually want to eat. (And for cocktail hour, one of the most extensive and delicious grazing boards we’ve ever seen!).

The dance floor

The layout of the dining hall is genius. The bar and the dance floor are in the same zone, meaning your guests don't get "split" across the venue. When the beat drops, everyone is right there with you.

Elevating the night

To make the industrial space really pop, we highly recommend adding lighting production. Our signature wireless up lights look phenomenal against the raw brickwork of the dining hall, adding a layer of warmth during dinner and transforming into a rhythmic light show once the dance floor opens up.

If you’re also looking for a live element, the acoustics in the hall are fantastic for a sax player to jump in alongside the DJ - the high ceilings really let the brass soar.
